Rather than continuing the series’ story, Half-Life: Alyx will bridge the gap between the original Half-Life and Half-Life 2, making Black Mesa a great way to catch up on the story of Half-Life with a modern update to its visuals and gameplay.
Long after most fans had given up any serious hope for a Half-Life sequel, Valve’s follow-up Half-Life: Alyx is set to launch later this month. While it missed its originally planned release date by roughly a decade, Black Mesa ended up launching at just about the most opportune moment possible. Black Mesa was released in March of this year after spending 15 years in development. Crowbar Collective, developer of the Half-Life remake Black Mesa, says it’s not interested in working on further remakes but wants to make original games in the future.
